New fun Tattooluum hang out! Las Iguanas Tulum

Tattooluum has found a new fun place to hang out. Las Iguanas Tulum is a fun restaurant at the southern end of town. We went for the grand opening and loved the signature drink La Cazuela with tequila, orange juice and fresh squeezed orange, lime and grapefruit. Its a very Mexican theme with local art and music often live. They have a theme for almost every night such as Goddess Night, 80's night, underage night for the kiddies on the streets which I think is great, and sports events as well plus a great sunday brunch. We dominated the grand opening with a huge table of 20 people. If you are a local or are coming to Tulum its a must to spend some time at Las Iguanas!

Tattoos a sign of change.....

Just as a snake sheds its skin to reveal a bright, new being, so can a tattoo. A tattoo can serve as a marker to a stage in life whether is be a positive time or hard time. It can heal you through hard times or give you inspiration to move forward and to leave the old behind. Although some see a tattoo as graffiti for the body temple, it can for some create a deep healing that goes beyond the skin.

The entire process is a growth not only literally for the tattoo but for the owner. First you must decide to get one which is in and of itself a task. Then you must decide what. This is the most important as you must seek a design that moves you. It has to be something that means something to you now and down the road. So not only do you need to know what but you need the design...a tree isn't just a tree..there are millions of designs of different artists. Its best to think of in your mind what you want then describe it to an artist with whom you connect. Its best to do this as at least when I do it, look for something I have in my head..I never do find just the right thing. And of course you need to know where you want to put it. Should it be private that only the ones closest to you see it? Or bright and loud for all to see?

Once the tattoo design has been born the appointment is made. This should be a continuation of the ritual. For me, I make it like an actual ritual. A tattoo hurts and anyone who says it doesn't is lying. However, you can dedicate this pain to something....someone who has passed, to a goal you want, or to an inner healing, etc. This makes a focus for the pain. I like to say getting a tattoo is like labor, you have hours of pain for something beautiful for the reast of your life and normally once the memory of the pain fades, you are ready for another! ;-)

Once the tattoo is done, its not over. As the tattoo heals over the next few days you can imagine that the healing is occurring in you if you have dedicated this to an inner healing. As the ink stiffens to a light scab its like your shell preparing to shed, like a snake's. As it begins to transform from a dull dark color to a bright shiny clearer color you can feel the inner healing shining through your skin from you inside. Its the evolution of the tattoo that represents your evolution through this stage or issue in your life.

And finally you have a healed but beautiful piece of work that will go with you anywhere and you will remind you to continue on the journey you started with this stage or something that you put in the past...whatever your journey is you have a permanent souvenir.

Ignorance and Stigma still alive today for the tattooed

Can you believe in 2010 that there is still a stigma on tattoos? In a world where its often rare to find a tattoo virgin body there are still negative connotations for the living art of tattooing. Its like the wars that begun in the dark ages over religion. Come on we are in the 21st century...wake up. There should be openness and tolerance in today's society..oh wait if there was then we would be living in a completely different world! A world without violence and hate and war.

I have added three links here..the first from tattoo.about.com about a very open minded Taylor C who has his viewpoint and well you just read it....

These next two are from my friend's blog. Not only is she a great friend but one of our best customers at Tattooluum. Its just sad to read through great positive comments. Notice the only negative comments on her blog are by the same person..."anonymous". Please at least own up to your comments if you feel you must force them upon us......

Seth Jordan, Guest Artist arrives June 22nd at Tattooluum!!!!

Tattooluum is proud to present Seth Jordan from IDIAINK, Lakewood, CO to guest spot at Tattooluum from June 22nd to 25th. Here is a short bio on Seth and his work.....

Seth Jordan, Owner/Artist IDIAINK Tattoo, Lakewood, Colorado

"Being raised in a smalll town is usually not the best environment to grow a creative mind however I found it was the best thing that could have happened to me. I developed much of my artistic style getting yelled at by teachers as I scribbled on the back of tests and the margins of notebook paper.

I never did have a stylistic influence growing up so to speak, I always looked towards nature for my inspiration. I enjoy breaking down colors and textures and always try to find a way to bring more value and contrast to my art. I was taught the trade of tattooing through a formal apprenticeship and truly do respect tattooing as an art form. The human canvas is amazing to work with. Some prefer a # 2 fan brush and acrylic paint I prefer a 17 curved magnum needle and tattoo ink.

I enjoy all types of tattoo styles from bold lined traditional pieces to photo realistic floral pieces and everything in between. I am comfortable tattooing color or black and gray and will always work with my customers to develop a lasting piece of art they can take with them their entire lives."

EcoGlamour 2010 beach day!

Tattooluum Represents at EcoGlamour 2010, Tulum

EcoGlamour 2010 Tulum

Sometimes you just have to go out and have some glamour!!! I had the very distinct pleasure of sharing a special fashion night on the beach with my very best sista, Mindy. Mindy runs Tulum Living.com and so we went to represent Tulum Living and Tattooluum. It was so much fun! We first went to Blue Tulum to see the fashion runway designers show which honored our good friend Ariane Dutzi for her dutzi design bags which help the local community. We enjoyed wine while we took photos and posed for photos amongst friends. The music was great. Then we jetted off to Luna Maya where there was a flamenco fashion show. Now that was the bomb diggity! The one at Blue was so out of place for Tulum..as is it as an all inclusive....but Luna Maya was great as it had more of the Tulum feel with the hippy aura and fire dancing..wine was there too..oooo. I met some great people from Cancun who distribute expanders and piercings and also do suspension! I spent the whole night with Ivan, Saul and Pato getting excited about learning to suspend. So the Tattooluum teanm not only respresented at EcoGlamour but also have a new hobby to learn..suspension in the cenotes......updates to come soon!

Tattooluum in the Tattooed World

I have been reading more and more about the tattoo community and me likeys! Going to the expo the other week was amazing. There is no competition! People open their arms to you and bring you in like family. Reading the blogs on tattoos and tattooed people I find it very similar. Don't get me wrong I know there are the people who do not agree with tattoos... (see Karen Hudson's tattoo.about.com blog on Taylor C. http://tattoo.about.com/b/2010/03/07/thank-you-for-your-wisdom-taylor-c.htm worht the chuckle ;-P)

But as my very wise sister-in-law said to me today "Tattoos are the reflection of the soul." Right on, Sista! (Literally) Tattoos not only come into your life they will be there forever..not like some people! They are like your friends who curl up under your skin during hard times and are there to remind you that you handled it and got through it. They celebrate great times in your life and take you back to that event that was life changing.

And then there are the artists. These incredible entities who put your emotions and healing into a wordless (a picture is worth a thousand words) work of art that adorns your body and adores you. They can also bring about a miracle to cover any disaster or mistake that may have entered you skin..ie. coverups. To have a great tattoo artist in your life is beyond words like art....even better if he is your hubby(plus you get a good discount)! I am glad to be a part of the Tattoo World and look forward to delving deeper into this gathering of wiseones and not so normal ones who have the courage to express who they are with the knowing that there are Taylor C.s out there. Here's to you tattooed or not to find your place in the world and to find a way with or without tattoos to express your soul....Namaste

"Show me a man with a tattoo and I'll show you a man with an interesting past." Jack London (Hey Jack what about us interesting Goddesses??!)
